New Psalmist Baptist Church has a rich history that spans over 100 years. Under the stewardship of Bishop Walter S. Thomas, New Psalmist Baptist Church has grown to over 7000 members and in 2010 the Church moved to a brand new 4000 seat worship facility. The New Psalmist Retreat and Meeting Center (NPRMC) is the second largest meeting and event space located within the Baltimore metropolitan area. Equipped with state of the art audio, visual, lighting, promotional services and delectable catering options, our convention center and banquet hall offers its clients affordable one-stop-shop service accompanied by impeccable presentations and incomparable services.

New Psalmist Baptist Church is currently seeking a Maintenance Technician who is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and grounds. The Maintenance Technician performs maintenance service and repairs in plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, machine servicing, electrical, and operations. Proficient knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within maintenance required. Works under immediate supervision. This position provides maintenance support functions that assure the general operations of New Psalmist Baptist Church are met.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and 1-2 years of experience in the building repair or maintenance field.
  • Performs routine semi-skilled maintenance tasks for NPBC facilities, including, but not limited to, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical trades. Ensures facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition.
  • Assembles, repairs, maintains, and moves furniture, such as desks, cabinets, tables, chairs, shelves, and related fittings and fixtures.
  • Plans repair work using buildings blueprints or equipment manual as needed.
  • Conducts routine inspections and maintenance of heating, electrical, and air conditioning equipment; replaces filters; identifies and reports more complex maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Execute strategies and procedures for setting up and breaking down activities related to the church.
  • Open/close church facilities
  • Inspects facilities and grounds for safety and security; identifies and reports hazardous conditions and facility maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Follows safe working practices and appropriately uses related safety equipment as required.
  • Monitors inventory, orders supplies, and maintains purchase records within authorized budget.
  • Maintains records and logs of daily activities
  • Takes initiative to identify or enhance procedures and methods
  • Assists church staff and members by answering maintenance questions and resolving problems
  • Assists with NPBC events, as needed
  • Knowledge of MS Office Word and Excel applications.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be well-organized and can prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and analyze basic mathematical operations.
  • Physically capable and available to work overtime, including weekends, public holidays, and evenings
  • Ability to thrive in a demanding environment and to adjust quickly and smoothly to changing priorities

Work Environment, Equipment, Physical Demands

  • Physically able to stand and move during the length of shift; able to squat, stoop, bend and kneel through shift; use hands and fingers to manage or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear; able to lift and or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors on a regular basis.
  • Occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays.
  • Frequently exposed to the risk of electrical shock, mechanical, explosive, burn, and chemical hazards.
  • Moderate noise level.
  • Daily uses hand strength to grasp tools, supplies, and equipment.
  • Occasionally climbs ladders.
  • Meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
