Port Discovery Children's Museum, one of the top Children's Museum in the United States and a top cultural institution in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, is seeking an energetic and creative educator to be our part-time STEM Education Specialist. General Summary of the Job:

The STEM Education Specialist will lead Port Discovery's science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educational programming and ensure an exemplary museum experience for all. The Specialist will research, create, implement, and evaluate innovative educational STEM activities, programs, and events for young children (birth through age 10) and their families that support Port Discovery's commitment to offer innovative, interactive, playful and engaging learning experiences. In addition, the Specialist will conduct trainings to staff to facilitate those education programs, engage in education outreach programs, support grant-related work as it relates to STEM programming, and develop and maintain pertinent community partnerships that will enhance the Museum offerings and mission.

This is a part-time position offering 29 hours per week, and the schedule is typically Sunday - Thursday, but is subject to change and may be flexible. Scheduled work hours will be adjusted according to department/museum needs. Participation in special events, evenings, weekends, and holidays will be necessary.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Researches, creates, implements, and evaluates innovative educational STEM activities, programs, and events for young children (birth through age 10) and their families that support Port Discovery's commitment to offer innovative, interactive, playful and engaging learning experiences.
  • Works closely with all other museum departments to create a cohesive team effort and exemplary museum experience.
  • Trains, mentors and supports staff on Performing Arts programs, from concept development to implementation through group trainings, individual trainings, modeling, coaching, and collaboration to ensure show quality programming and an exceptional museum experience.
  • Assists in the planning and coordination of necessary STEM program supplies, material and equipment.
  • Responsible for the design and preparation of documents as they relate to educational STEM activities programming and planning.

Position Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in education with a STEM minor, STEM field, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience working in STEM programming development and delivery, preferably with children and families, required.
  • Must have interest in working closely with children, parents, educators, and museum staff in developing and delivering an exceptional museum experience.
  • Museum experience is a plus.
  • Experience in program evaluation is a plus.
  • Must have excellent presentation, organizational, business writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Independent problem solving and decision-making skills are necessary for success.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable non-public transportation are required (for outreach activities).
